Attractive short-day; the best red onion for overwintering in the North.
Beautiful flat-round bulbs with rich purple skins. The most bolt-tolerant red onion in our ME and NH overwintering trials. Very sweet flavor with a spicy kick in the spring. Attractive bunches at 2″ diameter, but can also be grown to 3″ bulbs. Harvest-ready for spring markets (mid-late May, early June). Overwinter Desert Sunrise alongside Bridger for red and yellow spring onions. Also an excellent onion for fall and spring sowing in the South. For short-term storage (2–3 months).
