Planting & Care

1. Planting: Mango Trees can be planted outdoors in the ground in warm, tropical climates, or in containers in cooler climates. In either case, find a location with full sun – 6-8 hours per day is ideal

To plant your Mango Tree in the ground, dig a hole that’s twice as wide and as deep as your Mango Tree’s root ball. Place your Mango Tree, backfill with soil, and water generously.

When potting a Mango Tree, choose a pot with good drainage, 1-2 inches larger than your Mango’s shipped container. Place your tree, fill with an acidic potting soil blend, and water well.

TIP: Mango Trees prefer sandy, acidic soil. When planting or potting your Mango Tree, use an acidic potting mix to amend your soil to the ideal pH!

2. Watering: Your Mango Tree needs a lot of water while it’s establishing – water daily for the first two weeks, and then back off to every 3 days, and then every week. Water more often for container-planted Mango Trees or in times of drought. For ongoing maintenance, water when the soil is dry 2 inches down.

3. Fertilizing: Mango Trees are sensitive to chemical fertilizers, which can burn the leaves when applied incorrectly. For best results, use an organic fertilizer rich in mycorrhizal fungi and beneficial bacteria.

4. Pruning: Pruning can help Mango Trees develop more lateral branches, and produce more fruit. For best results, prune after harvest, creating an open crown so that light and air can penetrate to the middle of the tree.

5. Pollination: Mango Trees are excellent self-pollinators, so you’ll get fruit with just one tree. However, you can increase your pollinator power and fruit harvest with more than one!
